One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to read to them. The time spent reading to a preschool or elementary age child will not only expose that child to a larger vocabulary base, but will also help him develop an enjoyment of reading. Librarians and educators around the country continue to develop ways to encourage children to read. Among the most positive of these are children's book awards.
Perhaps the most well known awards are the Newbery Medal and the Caldecott Medal. The Children and Young Peoples Section of the Nebraska Library Association sponsors the Golden Sower Award for the children of Nebraska.
